Green smoothie, you’ve come at just the right time.
What is it about traveling? Despite my absolute best intentions, it’s almost impossible to keep up my healthy patterns whenever I set foot outside of my zip code. I spent the weekend in Nashville for the annual dietetics conference and while you’d think it would’ve been easy to get in my 5-a-day around a bunch of RD’s, that proved to not be the case.
With multiple cocktail parties and celebratory dinners each night, it’s a fair assessment that my diet for the past 36 hours has been a mix of mostly wine, cheese, and samples from the hundreds of expo vendors. In other words, I need a green smoothie stat.
After arriving home yesterday evening, I immediately face-planted into a larger than life salad to nourish both my mind and body. A nod to the meals that I am eager to settle back into and a reminder that I haven’t abandoned my usual ways all together.
I woke up this morning with a hankering for another satisfying meal, and turned to this smoothie. Apple, spinach, hemp seeds, ginger, and grapes. A smattering of the produce that was still left in the drawer from before I left, which happened to create the most fall-worthy green smoothie. Gentle heat from the freshly ground ginger with a crisp taste thanks to the apple and tart green grapes.
While I sucked this one down, I reminded myself that when it comes to healthy eating, consistency is more important than perfection. Sure, I love eating plant-based, whole foods most of the time as those are the foods that make me feel my absolute best. I also know, that while I may jump off that bandwagon for various events and reasons, it’s not the end of the world.
Getting back on track is what’s most important, in finding balance between the nutritious and overindulgent. Autumn green smoothie in hand, I’m ready to conquer the week.

Apple Green Ginger Smoothie
Yield 1 -2 servings
Apple Green Ginger Smoothie! This superfood smoothie is perfect, nutrient dense snack. Take a break from #pumpkineverything with this one! Apple & Ginger, perfect for fall.
- 2 cups chopped apples
- ½ cup white grapes
- 2 teaspoons fresh grated ginger
- 2 tablespoons hemp seeds
- 1.5 cups almond milk
- 1 cup spinach
- 1 cup ice
- Place all ingredients in a blender and puree until creamy and smooth! Enjoy immediately.
