White Sangria Slush! One part sno-cone, one part healthy dessert. Serve this at your next cookout to please both the kids AND the adults. Vegan, Gluten-Free, Naturally sweetened.
Warm summer evening. Comfortable breeze. Listening to great music on your patio. And this drink. I created this White Sangria Slush with summer socialization in mind. As the days get longer, I get excited for one of my favorite ways to spend a weekday evening- sitting outside, talking, and sipping.
White Sangria Slush – aka the adult version of a sno-cone. Layers of flavored, shaved ice that’s perfect for sipping on during a hot day or serving for dessert after a heavy meal.
I love that I can eat a giant glass of this slush and feel as satisfied as I would with a similar sized bowl of ice cream- for a fraction of the calories. Since I crave something sweet after most meals, a spoonful or two of this is the perfect way to feel like I’ve had dessert- without having to worry about overindulging.
I’ve made it my mission this summer to rework some of my favorite recipes to make them both lighter and naturally sweetened. For this healthy recipe, I’ve taken the infused fruit flavor of traditional sangria and reworked it into a slush, which can be topped off with alcohol when serving adults or turned into sno-cones when serving kids.
The best part about this beverage? It’s made with 100% fruit juice which means it’s a dessert that you can feel good about serving. I’ve been trying to really limit our added sugar intake, and I love turning to 100% fruit juice when I’m craving something sweet but still want to keep it nutrient rich. Thankfully, this sangria granita is the perfect compromise.
I first fell in love with granitas (a fancier name for slush) on our trip to Italy a few years ago. At one of our best meals in Florence, we enjoyed a limoncello granita that was so amazing, we went there the next night- just for dessert. I don’t know why granitas aren’t more appreciated here- after a meal of rich pasta and wine, granita sounds like a much better option than heavier cake or ice cream.
This recipe is so versatile, I know you’ll be mixing it up again and again. While I think the ratio of fruit juices is perfectly reminiscent of sangria, feel free to play with your favorites. If the idea of scraping ice doesn’t appeal to you, mix the ingredients together and then pour into popsicle molds. Leave them plain or add in sliced fresh fruit for extra color and texture.
When the temperatures (and humidity) start climbing this summer, I know what I’ll be reaching for —-> a glass of this refreshing slush.

Don’t forget to top it! For adults, try adding a shot of vodka, brandy, or white wine. For kids, add extra grape juice.

This looks like it would be great on a hot summer day.
Perfect summer treat!
This sounds like the perfect refreshment on a hot summer day. I will definitely be trying this out soon!
Oh yes – I’ll be topping mine off with wine 🙂
Oh yeah, a white wine float is MORE than encouraged for this one. If you’re feeling crazy, try white wine and brandy 🙂 I love that this one is fun for everyone! Kids love the “sno cone” appeal.
I’ll be joining you Deanna! 😀
This sounds great, I’d have to use wine though to make it sangria 😉
I love this idea. I have an old slushie machine that I am going to use to make this.
This is perfect treat. I would love it as would my 5-year old.
