Sunrise Smoothie Boost! A refreshing, delicious smoothie with 100% orange juice, carrot, ginger and turmeric.

Good morning! Coming to you with this Sunrise Smoothie Boost. It’s one part juice, one part smoothie and incredibly delicious and hydrating. Plus, it’s packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants making it the perfect addition to your morning routine.

My guess is that you likely have these ingredients on hand already: ground turmeric, ginger, carrots and orange juice. 100% orange juice provides vitamin C, potassium, folate, thiamin and is the primary dietary source of hesperidin— a polyphenol found in oranges and orange juice.

If you haven’t heard of hesperidin before— well, I really hadn’t either until I started doing research around juice for our upcoming Plant-Based Juniors book. Most of us know that citrus fruits, like oranges, are a rich source of vitamin C, but they also contain hesperidin, an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory effects that has been studied for its role in neurological disorders and cardiovascular disease. It’s concentrated in the inedible rinds, which is why levels are high in 100% OJ.

Sunrise Smoothie

This Sunrise Smoothie Boost is so refreshing and has become a staple in my house recently. It takes just minutes to whip together, and Vander loves a glass of it. With a base of Orange Juice, it’s a nutrient dense beverage that I feel good about enjoying. It’s naturally sweet and doesn’t contain any added sugar.

In addition to vitamin C and hesperidin, 100% OJ also has other health benefits:

  • Folate, an essential nutrient for pregnancy and may prevent cardiovascular disease in adults.
  • Potassium, a crucial mineral for building muscle, maintaining growth, fluid and electrolyte balance as well as cardiovascular, bone and kidney health.
  • Magnesium to help maintaining normal blood pressure
  • Vitamin B6 to help the body make antibodies and assists in metabolism

Sunrise Smoothie

For a zippy flavor, I added in both fresh ginger and ground turmeric. I love both of these flavors with orange and carrot and love the brilliant hue that ground turmeric gives. Turmeric and orange pair so well together, especially in this Sunrise Smoothie Boost. This bright yellow powder contains an active compound called curcumin, which has been studied for numerous health benefits. I typically like pairing turmeric with black pepper, which contains a compound called piperine, that increases the bioavailability of curcumin. However, I didn’t love the strong flavor of black pepper in this smoothie. Up to you want to add a pinch to yours!

I hope you love this Sunrise Smoothie Boost as much as we do!
